Position Overview

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Data Acquisition team, vital to Checkr's mission. This team designs, builds, and operates platforms for accurate background check data extraction at scale from various government and third-party sources.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the full development lifecycle for data platform features — from design and architecture through implementation, testing, and production monitoring.
• Design and build new data acquisition platforms in Python, emphasizing reliability, scalability, and observability.
• Participate in architecture decisions, write design documents, and contribute to the technical direction for the team's platforms.
• Improve platform visibility through structured logging, metrics, and alerting using Datadog and OpenTelemetry.
• Mentor junior engineers, lead code reviews, and enhance engineering quality across the team.
• Collaborate with engineers in Chile and the US to contribute to async-first planning and execution.

Qualifications

• Advanced English communication skills — written and verbal.
• Hybrid work availability in Santiago office.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong backend focus.
• Strong Python (or Ruby) skills with the ability to write idiomatic, well-tested, production-grade code.
• Experience in building or maintaining distributed systems, APIs, or data pipelines.
• Familiarity with containerized deployments — Docker, Kubernetes/EKS.
• Strong ownership mindset and participation in on-call rotations for service accountability.
• An A-player mindset with a strong bias for action.

Nice to Have

• Experience with MongoDB or NoSQL data stores.
• Understanding of web scraping concepts.
• Familiarity with Datadog or OpenTelemetry instrumentation.
• Experience with headless browsers.
• Background in compliance-sensitive data environments.
• AI-First Mindset: leverage AI-assisted tools in engineering.

Compensation

On-target earnings range for the position in Santiago, Chile: $49.980.000 - $58.800.000 CLP.
