Job Description
We are seeking a Principal, Structural Engineering to provide leadership in the area of Structural Integrity across our global operations. The core purpose is to be the overarching expert and owner for the technical management of structural maintenance issues. This role will be based in Santiago, Lima or Belo Horizonte and will require frequent travel.
Key role requirements:
- Management of Structural Engineering function.
- Ensuring Structural Engineering and Shaft Management best practice in design, project development, operations and maintenance of operational infrastructure.
- Development and management of Structural Engineering and Shaft Management Standards, Specifications, Guidelines, and Best Practice Principles.
- Support and oversight of Structural Engineering and Shaft Management in Engineering, Projects, Operations, Maintenance and Supply Chain functions..
- Management of Structural Integrity and Shaft Management catastrophic risks.
- Ensuring the appropriate minimum technical standards are in place and adhered to.
- Development and management of the Structural Integrity Standard and Shaft Management Standard, and ensuring compliance accordingly.
- Ensuring that a Community of Practice for structural engineers, Structural Integrity and Shaft Management is in place and actively managed.
- Coaching and mentoring structural engineers.
- Development, implementation and management of an appropriate Structural Inspection Maintenance Management system in support of AA Asset Integrity Management.
- Support and oversight of operational Structural Integrity Management and Shaft Management programs.
- Provide support and oversight of Structural Integrity and Shaft Management remediation works, capital planning and associated budgeting.
- Support and oversight of the Assurance function, including operational support in site Self-assessments, Second Line Assurance, Anglo American Business Assurance (ABAS), and Operational Risk Assurance (ORA).
- Annual oversight reporting to Anglo American Board relative to risk exposure in Structural Integrity and Shaft Management.
- Investigation and piloting of technology to monitor condition and technology in the as-built domain.
Formal Qualifications
Required:
- An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours degree or equivalent) in Mechanical and / or Structural Engineering
- A postgraduate qualification (Masters / Doctoral degree or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
- 10 years experience as a structural engineer in the mining industry, with experience across plant structures.
- Professional experience in earthquake zones.
- Demonstrated knowledge of operational complexities experienced as an engineer in a mining and processing operation.
- Significant knowledge of SIMM (Structural Inspections & Maintenance Management) concrete, corrosion protection, steelwork.
- Structural design experience.
- Experience with major maintenance projects, including design, execution, operational readiness, maintenance supply processes and MARC (Maintenance & Repair Contracts) management.
- Experience in Structural/Mechanical discipline project management in small and large projects with a good understanding of discipline interfaces
- Ability to solve technical and operational issues in cooperation with relevant stakeholders
- Fluency in English and Spanish.
