The Challenge Ahead
Manages and leads the end‑to‑end execution of projects under an EPCM delivery model, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, schedule, cost, and quality objectives, in line with the project base case.
Administers and oversees the EPCM contractor, leading multidisciplinary teams across the EPCM, Project, and Asset organizations. Provides on‑site support to the EPCM to address field execution needs, while ensuring full compliance with contractual obligations. Controls and validates physical and financial progress reported by the EPCM, identifies and mitigates risks, and makes timely decisions to ensure safe and efficient project continuity.
- Monitors HSS compliance, applying appropriate methodologies and standards to ensure effective execution of construction projects at BHP.
- Manages and oversees EPCM contractor execution, participating in planning, control, management, and reporting activities. Supports, channels, and distributes contractor requirements in a timely manner.
- Manages the relationship between the EPCM Contractor, the BHP Project Team, and the Asset Owner Team, ensuring effective coordination and alignment of objectives.
- Performs and leads the Owner Team role on site, representing BHP’s interests during project execution.
- Resolves complex and critical scenarios in a timely and effective manner, aligned with project objectives.
- Develops and leads high‑performance teams, fostering collaboration, shared accountability, and achievement of objectives.
- Promotes safety as a non‑negotiable value throughout all stages of the project.
- Defines project objectives and schedules, identifies critical activities, monitors plans and schedules, and drives continuous improvement initiatives across BHP projects.
- Monitors and manages project performance through the EPCM, ensuring delivery in line with safety standards, technical requirements, budget, and scope.
- Manages contract execution and analysis, with the objective of maximizing operational and financial performance while mitigating risks and exposure.
- Coordinates and assigns teams for RdP development, ensuring a structured and planned approach to solving complex problems.
- Identifies, implements, and evaluates continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of BHP systems and processes.
- Drives the achievement of 100% safety, 100% customer value, and 0% waste.
- Holds meetings with less operational customers, at Superintendent level, to understand and address their needs, acting as a link between management and operational areas.
- Leads and reports investigations related to health, safety, and environmental events associated with project development.
- Reviews physical and financial progress reports to support timely decision‑making, and coordinates meetings with contractors and stakeholders to track key KPIs.
- Coordinates with operational areas the handover of work fronts, tie‑ins, equipment deliveries, and any activity requiring operational involvement.
- Maintains a collaborative and respectful working environment with peers, leaders, and contractors.
- Develops, reviews, evaluates, endorses, and/or approves of work, safety, and reporting procedures, as applicable.
- Prepares reports, analyses, and documentation related to project phases and project governance.
- Leads, when required, BHP Delivery Specialists.
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, with a specialization in Construction, Mechanical, Electromechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
- Experience leading and/or supervising mining projects exceeding USD 250 million, performing roles such as Owner, ITO, or EPCM.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in contract administration under EPCM, EPC, EP+C, or similar delivery models.
- At least 10 years of experience executing complex works in highly challenging environments, preferably within large‑scale mining operations.
- 15 years of experience managing and applying QA/QC standards, Chilean Construction Standards, and legal safety and contractual requirements.
- 10 years of experience preparing reports, project documentation, and execution‑related deliverables.
