Job Description

As a Manager - Purchasing, you will be responsible for complete oversight and management of purchasing for assigned locations and buyers. You will work with branch, pricing, and region management to identify and execute cost savings opportunities, including supplier selections, negotiating into stock costs, customer-specific costs, and supplier programs. You will optimize and maintain strong supplier relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Manage suppliers to negotiate and resolve performance issues affecting costs, customer service, or inventory.
  • Identify margin improvement opportunities through reviews and analysis leading to negotiations.
  • Leverage WESCO’s size to maximize margin and supplier performance.
  • Support region-wide strategies and participate in margin improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure accuracy of replacement costs to maximize profitability.
  • Develop supplier performance metrics and oversee tracking.
  • Work with suppliers to identify ways to reduce costs and add value.
  • Communicate with suppliers regarding products, volume, timing, costs, and quality.
  • Maintain vendor relationships for best pricing and order preference.
  • Provide leadership and encourage professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with standard policies, procedures, and quality control processes.
  • Support LEAN programs and procedures for document control and process control.
  • Stay informed on market conditions affecting costs and product availability.
  • Evaluate price trends and new product launches for cost improvement.
  • Assist with recruitment and training of personnel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field required.
  • 5-7 years of increasing responsibility in purchasing management experience.
  • 3-5 years of distribution and wholesale experience.
  • 3-5 years of people management experience.
  • Common purchasing and inventory concepts knowledge.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Excellent time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize tasks, and work independently.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.
