We are building a Lead Akamai Security Engineer to own and evolve our Akamai security stack across critical digital services.

You will lead WAF, Bot Manager, DDoS Protection, and Account Protector work, tuning configurations with architects and engineering teams while protecting performance and user experience. Apply now to help strengthen our end-to-end security posture.

 

Responsibilities

• Own the rollout and continuous improvement of Akamai's full security portfolio, including WAF, Bot Manager, DDoS Protection, and Account Protector
• Partner with architects to design and deliver resilient security policies across varied application environments
• Tune and maintain Akamai security policies to ensure the right balance of protection and performance
• Create and release custom security rules aligned to emerging threats and business requirements
• Deliver IP Geo Rate Limiting, geographic access controls, and CIAM protection using Akamai Account Protector
• Lead site migrations to updated security policy frameworks when needed
• Improve performance and user experience while keeping security configurations strong
• Coach and support team members to grow organizational cybersecurity expertise
• Coordinate closely with security and application development teams to embed security into engineering practices
• Provide technical direction, run training sessions, and encourage knowledge sharing across the organization

Requirements

• Proven background with 5+ years of cybersecurity or network security experience, including hands-on work with Akamai security technologies
• Deep expertise in Akamai Web Application Firewall (WAF), Bot Manager, and DDoS Protection
• Strong understanding of web application security fundamentals, including the OWASP Top 10 and threat intelligence platforms
• Solid knowledge of network security protocols, SSL/TLS, certificate management, and PKI
• Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP and understanding of load balancers and content delivery networks
• Working familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipeline integration, and microservices architecture
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
• Fluent communication skills in English at a B2+ level

Nice to have

• Hands-on expertise in Akamai Account Protector and Edge Security features
• Familiarity with security monitoring solutions, SIEM integration, and API security
• Knowledge of the Akamai Ion platform to enhance application performance
