The mission of the Head of Finance is to safeguard and enhance the organization's financial health and growth by developing and implementing financial planning and analysis (FP&A) strategies that align with the company’s goals, particularly in pursuing inorganic growth through M&A. This role involves managing cash flow, overseeing accounting and taxes, supporting fundraising and investor relations, and establishing robust risk management processes. The Head of Finance will work collaboratively with the CFO and the executive team to shape corporate direction, drive operational efficiency, and ensure compliance with financial and government regulations while fostering transparent communication with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive financial strategies that align with the company’s overall aligning with the company’s objectives, focusing on long-term sustainability and profitability.
  • Lead the development of the annual budget and financial forecasting, provide insights and recommendations for strategic decision-making and evaluate potential M&A transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards; conduct audits to maintain accuracy and integrity in financial reporting.

Fundraising And Investor Relations

  • Lead fundraising initiatives related to M&A activities, from preparing materials to engage potential investors, to managing ongoing investor relationships and communications.
  • Regularly report on financial performance and growth opportunities to stakeholders, building trust and transparency.

Cash Flow & Treasury Management

  • Develop and implement cash flow management strategies to optimize liquidity and meet operational and strategic financing needs.
  • Oversee treasury functions including cash management, bank relationships, investment of surplus funds, and monitoring of financial instruments.
  • Manage short-term and long-term financing strategies, ensuring the organization has adequate resources to meet obligations while minimizing costs.
  • Monitor and analyze cash flow performance to identify trends, areas for improvement, and establish optimal working capital management policies.

Accounting And Tax Oversight

  • Oversee all accounting functions, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations. Prepare accurate financial statements that reflect the organization’s financial health.
  • Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize liability while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, facilitating the preparation of financial documents required for audits to ensure transparency and adherence to best practices.
  • Establish and enforce internal controls to mitigate risks in accounting and taxation, ensuring alignment with overall risk management policies.
  • Prepare and submit timely tax filings and provide insights on tax implications to inform strategic initiatives, particularly regarding organic and inorganic growth.

Development And Management Of Financial Systems

  • Lead the implementation and optimization of financial management software systems, ensuring they are integrated seamlessly with other business functions.
  • Oversee the development and continuous improvement of financial policies and procedures for system use, ensuring adherence to best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Train and support the finance team and other key stakeholders in the effective use of financial systems and tools, promoting best practices across the organization.
  • Analyze financial systems performance and recommend technological upgrades or enhancements to improve functionality and user experience.

Payroll And Benefits

  • Oversee the management and implementation of payroll systems that ensure accurate and timely compensation for employees, while adhering to legal requirements.
  • Develop and manage employee benefits programs, ensuring they are competitive, equitable, and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Monitor and analyze payroll and benefits data to identify trends and recommend improvements that enhance employee satisfaction and retention.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll regulations and benefit laws, while communicating policies and procedures clearly to employees.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, engaging across departments to drive alignment and achieve corporate objectives.
  • Develop and implement cross-functional initiatives that maximize both financial and business performance.
  • Provide strategic financial advice to the executive team by delivering insights and recommendations that support effective decision-making in areas such as long-term planning, expense management, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with leadership to analyze financial data, identify opportunities for cost savings, and develop strategies that align with the organization’s overall goals and objectives.

Risk Management And Compliance

  • Establish financial controls and HR compliance frameworks to mitigate risks associated with both finance and human resources.
  • Monitor compliance with labor laws and regulations, ensuring that all HR policies and practices align with industry standards and best practices.
  • Ensure tax compliance in all jurisdictions where the organization operates, keeping abreast of tax regulations and requirements to minimize liability and avoid penalties.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations and industry standards, including adherence to reporting requirements and guidelines set forth by governmental bodies.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with financial reporting and government regulations.

Minimum Requirements

Essential Qualifications:

  • Education:  Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Civil Engineering, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree (MBA or Master’s in Finance) is preferred.
  • Experience: Proven track record in finance leadership and investment banking roles, with at least 5 years of progressive experience, including 2+ years managing cross-functional teams, particularly in M&A activities.
  • Knowledge: Experience with IFRS required; knowledge of US GAAP is a plus. Familiarity with due diligence processes in M&A is essential
  • Skills: Exceptional analytical, strategic planning, leadership, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Languages: Proficiency in both English and Spanish is essential.
  • Platforms: Proficiency in financial management software, ERP systems, HR platforms, and the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
