Description
The Financial Analyst is a proactive, self-motivated, and reliable professional in charge of financial data processing, preparation of reports, and responsible for providing insights that ensure the data’s reliability and consistency. This position reports directly to the ALMA Budget Controller position and supports the Budget Controller and the Head of ALMA Department of Administration in forecasting, budgeting, financial modeling, and identifying trends to optimize financial performance. The Financial Analyst also collaborates with cross-functional local ALMA teams, supports ALMA users in systems use, evaluates financial outcomes, and ensures data accuracy to guide the organization's adherence to budget and internal protocols and procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for supporting the budget control area, including:
o Regular, timely and consistent upload of financial data from multiple sources into the Corporate financial system;
o Reviewing actual expenses to budgets;
o Verifying deviations;
o Making the appropriate entries to the budgeting system, and;
o Producing various reports and distributing with a defined frequency and recipients.
- Prepares and distributes a variety of reports from the computerized accounting and budgeting systems, including financial statements for each department every month, quarter and year, and a monthly ALMA unified report.
- Assists with the preparation of quarterly reconciliation documents between the ALMA partners.
- Prepares ad hoc reports, when requested.
- Look for continuous improvement to processes in order to streamline data processing and reporting, enabling a focus on analysis rather than manual tasks.
- Proactively anticipate and complete tasks early to balance workloads to minimize deadline pressure.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Engage with stakeholders to collect and validate expenditure information.
- Work with job managers and department heads to provide timely, actionable financial reports and assist in budget planning and execution.
- Identify and implement best practices for financial processes to enhance standardization and efficiency across the organization
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is performed typically in an administrative environment, mainly indoors at the Santiago Central Office (SCO), with a few visits to the Operations Support Facility facilities (OSF) (2900m elevation) and Array Operations Site (5000m elevation) in the Atacama Desert.
- Physical health must be compatible with high-altitude conditions.
- Willingness for international travel in the medium to long term after successful integration into the organization and a successfully meeting the challenges and duties of the position.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum requirements (must have):
- Minimum three years of related experience.
- University Degree in Commercial Engineering, Business, Civil Engineering, Information and Management Control, Accounting, or related field.
- English level B2 (as per international language stantard).
Desirable Requirements (an asset if present):
- Four or more years of experience
- Experience in international organizations.
- English level C1
- Proficiency in modern financial systems, tools, and databases, including ERP systems.
- Specialized studies in Finance (master's or diploma).
Competencies:
- Advanced knowledge of personal computers and software, particularly ERP systems, spreadsheets and word processing.
- Ability to organize and perform work to meet deadlines without local supervision.
- Ability to understand a key role in ALMA financing reporting which is to prepare timely and reliable numbers as soon as data is available.
- Ability to support stakeholders by providing actionable insights and fostering collaboration to optimize financial performance.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Financial Expertise:
- Strong understanding of financial concepts such as financial periods, closings, financial reporting, variance analysis, etc.
- Attention to detail to ensure accuracy and consistency in financial reports and projections.

- Ability to present complex financial data clearly, concisely, and with minimal errors.
- Strong written communication skills for creating reports and presentations.
- Creative and critical thinking to solve financial challenges.
