Electrical Design Engineer – IRELAND- onsite (PROFESSIONAL ENGLISH Required)

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, evaluation, and integration of electrical systems for projects based in Ireland, supporting utility, industrial, and construction environments. This includes engineering work related to the design of HV/MV substations, switchgear, transmission and distribution lines, grounding systems, and backup power generation equipment. The candidate will contribute to system design, equipment specification, testing, and commissioning to ensure all electrical installations meet Irish and international standards for safety, reliability, and quality.
Responsibilities
- Design and review electrical systems for HV/MV substations, switchgear assemblies, transmission and distribution infrastructure, and industrial power systems.
- Prepare engineering calculations, including load flow, short-circuit, grounding/earthing, and protection coordination.
- Evaluate and specify electrical equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, protective relays, backup generators, UPS systems, and distribution panels.
- Develop and conduct testing procedures to validate system performance and ensure compliance with relevant Irish electrical standards.
- Perform inspections, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities for HV/MV electrical installations.
- Maintain readiness and calibration of diagnostic equipment used for system verification.
- Produce engineering drawings, reports, and documentation to support project execution.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver results on time and to high technical standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Strong understanding of HV/MV design, substations, switchgear, transmission lines, and backup power systems.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities with strong math, physics, and analytical skills.
- Professional-level English (written and verbal) required for technical reporting and client communication.
Essential Skills & Knowledge Requirements
• Degree in Electrical Engineering (Level 8 or above).
• Minimum 7–10 years of experience in substation design.
• Familiarity with EirGrid /ESB specifications (desirable) and TSO/DSO procedures.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working toward chartership (Engineers Ireland), preferred but not essential.
• Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP/DigSILENT, EPLAN and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong communication skills with experience in client-facing and interdisciplinary roles.
• Full drivers licence.
