Brunel has an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Commissioning Manager (Contract) with our client who is a leading mining company in Arizona.
This contract position will work at site in El Abra, Chile.
Job Description
- Manage large multiple projects in parallel in the 5M to 800M range which would include international projects. Responsible for direction, planning and management of the commissioning phase of capital projects, beginning in the early phases of project definition with project execution planning, phasing, and scheduling, and continuing throughout the erection and commissioning phases of multiple projects.
- Essential Functions: Responsible for planning, developing, and implementing comprehensive commissioning plans, manpower resources and managing the pre-commissioning and commissioning effort effectively as required for startup of capital projects.
- Reviews P&IDs, design drawings and specifications to fully understand designated project areas and pre-commissioning systems and subsystems. Understands structure of turnover packages as defined on markup P&ID’s and flow sheets furnished by the EPCM. Provides input as needed on TOP structure to EPCM as required to ensure logical turnover sequence.
- Interact and negotiate with clients, vendors, contactors, and management on commissioning goals and guidelines.
- Works with EPCM contractor to obtain pre-commissioning plan to be used as the basis for the wet/ore commissioning and start up plan.
- Coordinate commissioning with construction sequence to expedite completion of construction and promote a logical commissioning effort.
- Recruit, train, inspire and manage commissioning staff for projects.
- Review contractor’s QA/QC documentation and installation, operations, and maintenance documentation to ensure installation complies with manufacturer’s requirements prior to commissioning.
- Keep abreast of planning strategies to achieve project completion with available resources on projects.
- Develops commissioning schedule, plans, and procedures and conducts punch list inspections including post-startup and punch-list activities.
- Develop overall startup and commissioning plan – including startup safety guidelines, test procedures, resource and activity schedule, operational requirements, third party requirements, and handover procedures.
- Participate actively in diverse operational aspects of project commissioning.
- Collaborate with clients and staff to deliver contracts within specified guidelines.
- Directs the activities of consultants and contractors.
- Work with project manager to coordinate participation of vendor representatives during commissioning.
- Reviews all scope outside EPCM battery limits for items to be supplied by owner. Any interface items required for successful plant startups such as power supply, water supply, control system design and supply, reagents, raw material feed supplies, ancillary systems, etc., shall be included in the integrated commissioning plans as well as an integrated construction and mechanical completion milestone schedule.
- Ensures that all commissioning activities are captured in the project systems and work with Document Controls to prepare turnover package documentation.
- Directs the activities of consultants and contractors.
- Work with site operations and contractor staff to conduct acceptance testing, and to ensure appropriate handover and transitioning of process area operations.
- Participate in development of commissioning spares inventory and requirements for special tools and testing equipment.

- Qualifications:Education and Work Experience
- Bachelor ’s degree in engineering or related field or equivalent in training and/or field experience and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the field OR High School diploma or GED and a minimum of 15 years progressive experience in the field.
- Full fluency in Spanish
- Availability for frequent travel, international assignments, and relocation to the site of work.
