Biomedical Scientist - Annex 21 - Haematology

The Role

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Biomedical Scientist under the Annex 21 Training Programme at University Hospital Hairmyres. The main duties of the role include:

  • Processing a range of specialist and routine laboratory diagnostic investigations in Haematology/Blood Transfusion.
  • Providing advice to clinicians regarding test appropriateness.
  • Responsible for own work using specialist training to operate complex equipment.
  • Mentoring less experienced Biomedical Scientists and participating in training.

Annex 21

Applicants who do not meet the essential criteria will be considered under the Annex 21 training programme, where they will be paid 75% of the top of Band 6 during training and will move to Band 6 scale upon completion.

What we'll need you to bring

  • BSc Honours degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
  • Formal evidence of specialist knowledge.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

It would be great if you also have

  • Licentiate of the Institute of Biomedical Science.
  • Previous experience in an NHS clinical laboratory.

Contract type

Permanent, full-time (37 hours).

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Haematology within University Hospital Hairmyres. Shortlisted candidates may be considered for similar vacancies in alternative locations.
